WAXAHACHIE, Texas – The York University baseball team opened the season two days later than expected due to inclement weather. The team lost a pair of games at Nelson by scores of 5-4 and 13-4.
The Panthers are now 0-2 on the season while the Lady Lions stand at 4-0.

Brian Walth's team trailed 5-0 in the top of the fourth. York promptly sliced into the deficit with a pair of runs.
With one down,
Sam Hodoly walked and
Noah Prasad entered as a pinch runner.
Landon Morgan was hit by a pitch, putting two runners on base. A wild pitch allowed both runners to move up a bag. Another wild pitch let Prasad cross home plate.
Austin Petersen's groundout plated Morgan, making it 5-2.
The Panthers threatened in the fifth.
Gio Tarin walked and moved to second on a two-out single, but a strikeout ended the threat. Petersen was left stranded after a one-out base knock in the sixth.
Bryce Gorecki drew a two-out walk in the seventh.
Jose Martinez was hit by a pitch, putting two on. Jackson Twedt promptly ripped a two-strike double into the outfield, allowing Gorecki and Martinez to race home. However, the squad was unable to push across the tying run.
For the game, Twedt had a double and drove in two while Peterson had one RBI.
On the mound,
James McCown worked 2.1 innings and had a strikeout.
Bryce Woodard threw 2.2 innings while
Cameron Castor had a strikeout.
Game two saw the Panthers jump on top in the second. Twedt posted a one-out single and trotted to second when
Marek Stone was hit by a pitch. Prasad's base knock loaded the bases before I. Gomez's sacrifice fly made it 1-0.
York quickly made it 2-0 when Gorecki launched a lead-off home run in the third. Martinez doubled and scored on Petersen's two-bag hit. After an error, Twedt singled in Petersen for a 4-0 advantage.
The Lions responded with a 10-run inning en route to the win. The home squad added three more in the fifth for the final tally.
For the game, Martinez and Twedt led the way with two hits apiece. Gorecki accounted for a home run. Martinez and Peterson registered doubles. Gomez, Gorecki, Petersen and Twedt all drove in a run.
On the mound,
Elvin Ramos got the start and worked 2.2 innings. He gave up 10 runs, only six of which were earned. Ramos posted three strikeouts.
Austin Copeland worked the final out of the third before
Dakota Angielski tossed a scoreless fourth inning with two strikeouts.
Ruben Colliander worked a frame.
Nate Dalizon tossed the sixth and had a strikeout.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow for the final game of the series starting at 12 p.m.
