Baseball: York falls to Nelson in final game of series

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – The York University baseball team lost a 12-7 decision at Nelson on Monday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 0-3 on the season.

Head coach Brian Walth's team jumped on top in the first frame. Kodai Namba doubled and scored on Austin Petersen's one-out double. Sam Hodoy doubled in Petersen for a quick 2-0 advantage.

Down 4-2 in the fourth, York pushed across three runs for the lead. Hodoly singled and Noah Prasad entered as a pinch hitter. Marek Stone singled and Prasad went to second. After a bases loaded walk to Bryce Gorecki, Landon Morgan's sacrifice fly made it 4-3.

Thomas Bonde entered as a pinch hitter and singled to load the bags or Nathan Eisemenger, who drew a walk to even the score. Jay Twedt's RBI single gave the visitors a brief 5-4 advantage.

Nelson countered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-5 lead.

The Panthers knotted the score on Gorecki's one-out base knock in the fifth, driving in Stone, who earlier had been hit by a pitch and moved to second on a wild pitch.

The home squad plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the 8-6 margin.

York got things going in the seventh when Stone recorded a one-out single. Morgan's base hit put two on with two away and forced a pitching change. However, Nelson managed to get the final out of the frame.

Down 12-6 in the ninth, Hodoly posted a one-out double. Two batters later, Gorecki singled him home for the final run of the contest.

For the game, Hodoly led the way with three hits, including two doubles. Gorecki, Morgan and Stone had two hits apiece. Gorecki drove in two while Stoen scored twice.

On the mound, Sam Reynolds got the starting nod and worked three innings. He had four strikeouts. Bryce Woodard entered and tossed three frames while picking up two strikeouts. Jaret Mello worked the seventh and eighth innings and had a strikeout. Woodard took the loss.

The Panthers return to action Saturday when they travel to Panhandle State for a three-game series starting with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at Yorkpanthers.com.
