GOODWELL, Okla. – The York University baseball program split a doubleheader at Panhandle State on Saturday, winning 11-6 before falling 10-6 in the nightcap.
The Panthers are now 1-4 on the season.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team trailed 2-0 in the second inning, but quickly knotted the game.
Kodai Namba entered as a pinch runner and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Nathan Eisenmenger drew a walk and both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Namba scored on a wild pitch and
Noah Prasad drove in Eisenmenger on a single.
Down 4-2 in the fourth,
Bryce Gorecki reached on an error. Namba pinch ran and took third on Eisenmenger's single to left field. Eisenmenger swiped second and both scored on Prasad's base knock to left field. Two batters later,
Austin Petersen singled in
Trace Hall, who returned to the line-up after
Thomas Bonde pinch hit for him.
Sam Hodoly tripled in Prasad and Peterson for a 7-4 margin.
Up 7-5, the teams traded runs in the sixth. Walth's squad scored when
Jay Twedt reached on an error, allowing Prasad, who doubled, to score. York added three insurance runs in the seventh.
Gio Tarin singled in Namba. Twedt's base knock drove in Hall and Tarin for the final runs of the contest.
For the game, Prasad had three hits, three RBI and scored twice. Hodoly and Twedt drove in two apiece while Namba scored three times. Eisenmenger and Hall each scored two times. Hall crossed home twice in the victory.
On the mound,
Elvin Ramos got the start and tossed three frames. He had four strikeouts.
Dakota Angielski tallied four strikeouts and picked up the win while throwing two scoreless innings.
Brayden Woodard and
Jaret Mello each worked a frame.
Game two saw York take a 1-0 lead in the third. The home team plated seven straight before the Panthers pushed two across in the fifth. OPSU led 10-3 before York scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh for the final score.
In the third, Twedt walked and moved to second on
Marek Stone's single. An error allowed Stone to score after Twedt was out at third.
Trailing 7-1,
Landon Morgan singled and trotted home on Twedt's two-run blast in the fifth.
The sixth inning saw York load the bags for Prasad, who promptly drew a walk to make it 10-4. R. Williams raced home when Eisenmenger reached on a fielder's choice. Twedt crossed home in the seventh on a wild pitch.
For the game, Twedt and Eisenmenger had two hits apiece. Twedt drove in two and scored twice. Twedt had a round-tripper while Eisenmenger recorded a double.
On the mound,
Sam Reynolds tossed two innings and had four strikeouts.
Austin Copeland worked 1.1 frames and had a pair of strikeouts. Cameron Coster threw 1.2 frames while
Evan Tordiffe completed the sixth inning.
