STERLING, Kan. – The York University baseball program scored eight runs in the first three innings and posted a 12-6 victory at Sterling Thursday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 2-5 on the season, including 1-0 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team jumped on top with a pair of runs in the first inning. With two down,
Jay Twedt was hit by a pitch. He raced around to score on
Sam Hodoly's double to right field.
Marek Stone's base knock to the gap plated Hodoly for the two-run advantage.
Trailing 3-2 in the third,
Jose Martinez reached on an error and took third on Twedt's double. After Hodoly walked, Stone's single plated two. Moments later, Hodoly scored when
Landon Morgan reached on an error.
Bryce Gorecki's sacrifice fly plated Stone.
Gio Tarin launched a two-run shot over the left field wall for an 8-3 margin.
Sterling pushed across a run in the fourth. The score remained the same until the eighth.
Noah Prasad drew a lead-off walk in the eighth and
Kodai Namba entered as a pinch runner. After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, he went to third on a fielder's choice. Stone's infield single allowed him to race home. Morgan doubled in Hodoly and Stone for an 11-4 tally.
The Panthers tacked on a run in the ninth when
Nathan Eisenmenger blasted a solo shot to left field.
For the game, Stone led the way with three hits, four RBI and two runs scored. Tarin recorded two hits, including a home run. He knocked in two. Morgan drove in three while Hodoly and Twedt scored three times and twice, respectively.
On the mound,
Brayden Woodard threw five frames and had five strikeouts as he picked up the win.
Dakota Angielski went three innings and notched three strikeouts.
Jaret Mello worked the ninth and did not give up a run.
