Baseball: Panthers score four runs in the ninth inning to win 9-7 at Hesston

HESSTON, Kan. – The York University baseball team overcame a deficit in the ninth inning for a 9-7 victory. 
 
The Panthers are now 5-5 on the season. 
 
Head coach Brian Walth's team broke through with a run in the fourth inning. Marek Stone led off the stanza with a single through the left side of the infield. Landon Morgan drew a one-out walk. Two batters later, Bryce Gorecki ripped a single through the left side of the infield, knocking in Stone. 
 
Hesston plated two runs in the bottom of the frame and three in the fifth for a 5-1 margin. However, the Panthers struck for a run in sixth. Morgan drew a one-out walk as did Noah Prasad. After Gorecki was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Jose Martinez earned a base on balls, pushing across a run to make it 5-2.
 
Down 6-2, Morgan led off the eighth with a double to right center field. With one down, Gorecki's single pushed Morgan to third. R. Johnston entered as a pinch runner for Gorecki before Gio Tarin's single plated Morgan. Martinez doubled home Johnston and Tarin, making it 6-5. 
 
Trailing 7-5 in the ninth, Morgan doubled and Kodai Namba drew a walk. Each swiped a bag and Gorecki was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Tarin was hit by a pitch, knocking in Morgan. After a pitching change, Martinez roped a base hit to right field, driving in Namba and Johnston for an 8-7 lead. Nathan Eisenmenger's sacrifice bunt pushed Tarin across home plate for a two-run margin. 
 
For the game, Martinez had three hits and drove in five. Gorecki, Morgan and Stone had two hits apiece. Tarin drove in two while Morgan scored three times. Tarin also crossed home twice.
 
On the mound, Jaret Mello got the start and had three strikeouts. Jackson Taylor had a pair of strikeouts while Elijah Hoge had one. Ruben Colliander tallied three strikeouts and Evan Tordiffe posted one. Cameron Castor got the win by throwing two innings of relief.
