WICHITA, Kan. – The York University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Friends University Saturday by scores of 7-0 and 4-2.
The Panthers are now 5-7 on the year and 3-2 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team posted a hit in the first via
Jay Twedt, but he was left stranded. Still down 2-0 in the second,
Isaac Gomez singled to center field and took second on a wild pitch with two down, but he was left in scoring position.
Friends posted four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 7-0 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Sam Hodoly recorded a one-out single and stole second.
Landon Morgan drew a walk and Gomez reached on an error to load the bases. However, a strikeout ended the threat.
For the game, Gomez, Hodoly and Twedt recorded hits.
On the mound,
Brayden Woodard went three innings and had a strikeout.
Austin Copeland tossed four innings and tallied three strikeouts while
Evan Tordiffe recorded two strikeouts in the final two innings.
Game two saw York take a 1-0 lead in the second. With two down, Morgan blasted an offering over the center field wall for a one-run margin.
Down 2-1 in the fourth, Twedt opened the inning with a round-tripper to left center field, knotting the score.
Friends managed to push across two runs in the seventh for the final two runs of the contest.
York had a chance to tie with Morgan on second base, but back-to-back outs ended the contest.
For the game, Morgan had two hits. He and Twedt each had one RBI.
On the mound, E. Ramos got the start and worked six innings. He struck out four in the loss.
Dakota Angielski worked the final three outs.
