WICHITA, Kan. – The York University baseball team lost a 7-5 decision to Friends Sunday afternoon in a league contest.
The Panthers are now 5-8 overall, including 3-3 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning.
Marek Stone roped a ground-rule double over the wall. After a walk to
Isaac Gomez,
Ryder Williams also drew a base on balls to load the bases. Two batters later,
Jose Martinez singled in Stone.
Gio Tarin's walk pushed across Gomez, tying the score at 2-2.
Down 3-2 in the sixth,
Noah Prasad was hit by a pitch. Martinez singled to left field, pushing Prasad to second. Moments later,
Jay Twedt doubled home Prasad and Martinez for a 4-3 advantage.
Landon Morgan's base knock to right field allowed Twedt to score for a 5-3 margin.
The Falcons scored a run in the seventh and three in the eighth for a 7-5 lead.
With two outs in the ninth, Gomez singled to center field.
Thomas Bonde entered as a pinch hitter and recorded an infield hit. However, a fielder's choice ended the game.
For the game, Martin tallied three hits, drove in one and scored. Twedt totaled two hits, including a double, drove in two and scored. Morgan singled in a run. Stone doubled and scored while Gomez had a hit and crossed home. Tarin drove in a run. Prasad also crossed home.
On the mound,
Bryce Woodard got the start and worked 6.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Cameron Castor tossed 1.2 frames and had a strikeout.
Jaret Mello worked the ninth and threw a scoreless frame.
The Panthers return to action Tuesday when they play at Bethany at 1 p.m.
