HASTINGS, Neb. – The York University baseball team lost a 12-11 contest at Hastings in a mid-week clash Tuesday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 7-15 on the season.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team fell behind 6-0 but cut the deficit in half in the third frame.
Austin Petersen singled and moved to second on a walk to
Landon Morgan. With one down,
Marek Stone reached on a fielder's choice, putting the runners on first and third before a base on balls to
Ryder Williams loaded the bases.
Bryce Gorecki drew a ful-count walk to plate Petersen and
Gio Tarin singled in Stone and Williams, making it 6-3.
Morgan doubled home
Isaac Gomez in the fourth, but the home team plated one run as well in the bottom of the inning.
Jay Twedt tripled to left center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Stone in the fifth, slashing the margin to 7-5. Stone's homer to left field made it 8-6 in the seventh.
Trailing 9-6 in the eighth, Tarin singled and scampered to third on a base knock by
Jose Martinez. A walk to Petersen loaded the bases. After a pitching change, Morgan drew a walk as did Twedt and Stone, knotting the score at 9-9.Another pitching change ensued but the result was the same – this time via a walk to
Aiden Knoernschild.
Hunter Arellano singled in Twedt for an 11-9 edge.
Hastings scored three in the bottom of the ninth, including the game-winning run with two outs.
For the game, Gomez led the way with three hits. Tarin had two hits. Stone drove in three while Morgan and Tarin each knocked in two. Petersen, Stone and Twedt all crossed home twice each.
On the mound,
Austin Petersen got the start and worked 1.2 innings with a strikeout.
Austin Copeland worked 3.1 frames with two strikeouts.
Ruben Colliander had a strikeout in 1.1 innings while
Jaret Mello notched two strikeouts in two frames.
Cameron Castor worked one-third of an inning.
