YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team dropped a pair of tightly contested games to Evangel Friday afternoon by scores of 6-3 and 6-5.
The Panthers are now 7-17 on the season, including 5-8 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team trailed 1-0 entering the sixth inning.
Gio Tarin led off the inning with a 2-1 double to right center field. After
Jose Martinez laid down a sacrifice bunt to push him to third,
Isaac Gomez laced a single to right field, knocking in Tarin.
Austin Petersen singled to left field, putting two on. After a groundout pushed both runners into scoring position,
Marek Stone rocketed a single through the left side of the infield, scoring Gomez for a 2-1 advantage.
The visitors scored a run in the seventh and fourth in the eighth for a 6-2 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, York plated a run via Hodoly's lead-off home run over the left center field wall. However, the team was unable to get another runner on base.
For the game, Hodoly and Tarin had two hits apiece.
On the mound,
Bryce Woodard worked seven innings and had two strikeouts.
Austin Copeland saw time on the mound while
Dakota Angielski threw two innings and had a strikeout.
Game two saw the Valor take a 4-0 lead entering the fourth frame. Hodoly drew a lead-off walk and hustled to second on a base knock by
Marek Stone.
Nathan Eisenmenger tripled home both runners.
Bryce Gorecki singled in Eisenmenger, slicing the deficit to one, 4-3.
Evangel plated two runs in the fifth, pushing the margin to three, 6-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Hodoly walked and moved to third on Stones double down the right field line. Eisenmenger walked and
Hunter Arellano, who entered as a pinch hitter, drew a full-count walk, plating Hodoly. Moments later, Stone scored on a fielder's choice by Tarin, bringing the Panthers within one, 6-5.
For the game, Stone had two hits, including a double. He also scored twice. Eisenmenger tallied a triple and drove in two.
On the mound,
Elvin Ramos got the start and worked four innings with two strikeouts.
Cameron Castor tossed the next three innings of scoreless relief. He gave up a mere hit.
