YORK, Neb. - The York University baseball team picked up a pair of wins Friday over Oklahoma Wesleyan by scores of 5-3 and 5-2.
The Panthers are now 13-19 on the season, including 11-10 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team got on the board in the early going.
Jay Twedt tripled down the right field line with one down in the second inning. Two batters later,
Nathan Eisenmenger's single into left field knocked in Twedt for an early 1-0 lead.
Oklahoma Wesleyan tied the game in the third and took a 2-1 advantage with a run in the fourth.
Twedt got things going in the bottom of the fourth with a lead-off single.
Hunter Arellano knocked a pitch into center field, putting two on. After Eisenmenger was hit by a pitch,
Jose Martinez knotted the score with a single to right field. With the bases still loaded,
Landon Morgan was hit by a pitch, allowing Arellano to trot home for a 3-2 margin.
Tied at 3-3 in the seventh, Walth's squad regained the lead. Morgan led off the inning with a single through the right side of the infield and
Sam Hodoly crushed a two-run shot down the right field line, which proved to be more than enough for the outstanding pitching staff.
For the game, Martinez, Morgan,
Gio Tarin and Twedt had two hits apiece. Hodoly crushed a two-run home run. Twedt tripled while Martin, Morgan and Tarin all had doubles. Twedt crossed home twice.
On the mound,
Bryce Woodard tossed six innings and gave up three runs on seven hits. He had a pair of strikeouts.
Dakota Angielski threw two frames and had a strikeout.
Sam Reynolds tossed the final inning for the save.
York opened the first inning of game two with four runs. Martinez opened the contest with a single to right field and moved to second on
Austin Petersen's walk. Morgan's base hit drove in Martinez. With two on, Hodoly belted a three-run shot over the right center field wall for a 4-0 lead.
With one down in the fourth,
Bryce Gorecki smashed a 3-1 offering over the left field wall for a 5-0 cushion.
The Eagles scored two runs in the sixth for the final tally.
For the game, Martinez led the way with two hits. Hodoly tallied three RBI to pace the offense. Gorecki and Hodoly each recorded home runs.
On the mound,
Elvin Ramos went the distance and had seven strikeouts to pick up the win. He gave up two runs on five hits.
