BELLEVUE, Neb. – The York University baseball team lost a hard-fought 5-4 contest at No. 4 Bellevue Tuesday evening in a non-conference affair.
The Panthers are now 13-21 on the season.
Head coach Brian Walth's team took a 1-0 lead in the second stanza. Sam Hodoly doubled to right center field and took third on Marek Stone's base knock through the left side. Jay Twedt lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Hodoly to race home for the one-run advantage.
Bellevue plated a run in the bottom of the second and another in the third for a 2-1 lead.
The score remained the same until the seventh. Jose Martinez was hit by a pitch, but he was erased on an Austin Petersen fielder's choice. Kodai Namba entered as a pinch runner and moved to second on a walk to Landon Morgan. Hodoly doubled home Namba before Marek Stone's double plated Morgan and Hodoly for a 4-2 advantage.
The home squad tied it in the bottom of seventh and took a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth. York recorded a single in the ninth, but the team was unable to push across the tying run.
For the game, Hodoly, Nathan Eisenmenger and Stone had two hits apiece. Stone drove in two while Hodoly had two doubles an crossed home twice.
On the mound,
Austin Copeland worked 6.2 innings and had three strikeouts.
Brayden Woodard recorded an out while
Dakota Angielski posted two strikeouts while throwing the eighth inning.
