YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team lost a hard fought 7-4 contest to #12 Kansas Wesleyan Tuesday evening in a league contest.
The Panthers are now 15-27 on the season, including 13-17 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Brian Walth's squad threatened to get on the board in the first inning.
Jose Martinez recorded a lead-off walk and moved to second on
Gio Tarin's base hit to right field.
Austin Petersen laid down a sacrifice bunt, pushing both runners up 90 feet. A strikeout and groundout ended the inning.
Marek Stone led off the second with a double down the left field line. After
Jay Twedt was hit by a pitch, a passed ball allowed each student-athlete to move up a base.
Nathan Eisenmenger's sacrifice fly allowed Stone to race home for a one-run cushion.
With two down in the fourth, Stone was hit by a pitch. Twedt singled through the left side of the defense, but a fly ball ended the stanza.
The Coyotes scored three runs in the fifth but York countered in the sixth. Petersen singled to left field and hustled to second on a fielding error. With two away, Stone was hit by a pitch on a full count. After a pitching change, Twedt singled to right field, driving in Petersen. Eisenmenger doubled to right field, plating Stone and Twedt for a 4-3 advantage.
Kansas Wesleyan plated four runs in the seventh for a 7-4 lead. York was unable to get another runner in scoring position the rest of the way.
For the game, Stone and Twedt had two hits apiece. Stone and Eisenmenger each had a double. Eisenmenger drove in three while Twedt had one RBI. Stone scored twice while Petersen and Twedt each crossed home once.
On the mound,
Sam Reynolds got the start and tossed six frames. He had five strikeouts.
Mason Gorecki saw time on the mound while
Dakota Angielski threw the final three innings with a strikeout.
