It was another thrilling game at nationals for the Panthers as they took on #25 Midland University in the second round of the NAIA Tournament in Point Lookout, Mo. York led by as many as 14 points in the first half but lost the lead about five minutes into the second period.
Midland's largest lead came with 7 minutes left in the contest, but York kept their poise and battled back to tie the game 64-64 with 18 seconds left in regulation on a putback by Heyvis Jackson. With time winding down, the Warriors put up an outside jumper that missed and gave York another chance in overtime, the third of the tournament and York's second in as many games.
Midland took the lead early in the overtime period and never looked back as they finished with the win 76-71.
York shot 40% from the field compared to Midland's 42%, but the real story was beyond the arc as the Panthers hit only 2 of 16 on the day. The leading scorer for the Panthers was again Thadd Varmall with 26. Jackson had his second double-double of the NAIA Tournament with 11 rebounds to go with his 14 points.
The Panthers finished 24-9 on the season. Congratulations Coach Deal and your staff on a very successful 2012-13 campaign and for giving York College fans everywhere a chance to be involved in some Panther March Madness!
