York College was unable to overcome foul trouble to beat Oklahoma Wesleyan and sweep the season series Friday night. The Eagles won 84-72 by outscoring the Panthers on the free throw line 29-12. The Eagles had 21 more attempts than Panthers. Several key players for York were limited in minutes due to foul trouble and Wesleyan didn't waste the opportunity by driving into the lane against a small York line-up. Heyvis Jackson had a team high 18 points but spent quite a bit of the first half on the bench due to that foul trouble. Dylan Brewer, Andre Vaughn and Remi Mignott all scored 12 each and Reggie Sonnier led the Panthers on the boards with six.
Coach Deal knew this would be a battle as the Eagles are currently second in the conference. "We knew defense was going to be a big deal tonight and we came in with intensity to shut them down. We have a rough night with foul calls and didn't adjust to the refs well at all. I have to give my props to Wesleyan for adjusting to the ticky-tack game and driving into the lane and getting the calls. With that type of reffing we settled too much for the outside shots instead of forcing it into the paint and letting our big guys get the calls. A night like this and we just needed to penetrate and get to the line more often and we didn't adjust to that."
The Panthers close out their home season Saturday at 5:00pm as they host Haskell University.
