Box Score Coach Delton Deal and his team were more than ready to start their conference schedule on Friday night. The Panthers led for all but one minute of the game and built a lead by as many as 26 points. York was able to hold the lead through the first half before breaking it open in the second period to outscore Waldorf by 18 in the half. The Panthers were led in scoring by Deon Willis (SR/ Lake Charles, La) and Cameron Coleman (SO/Allen, Texas) with 15 a piece. Darreon Tolliver (JR/San Diego, Calif) led the team in rebounds with 7.
York was hot right out of the gate as they quickly built a 7 point lead on a 3-point bucket by Deon Willis. After trading baskets for the next 10 minutes the Warriors were able to make a little run and take their only lead with 7 minutes remaining in the half. That would be it for the Warriors as York regained the lead on the next possession and never looked back. York went into the half leading by 8 points.
In the second half it was all York as back-to-back 3-point field goals by Terrence-Cole Michael (JR/San Diego, Calif) put the Panthers up by 17. York would add to it's lead gradually and maintain control leading by as many as 26 by the end of the night.
York's defense was the game changer as they forced 17 turnovers with solid pressure. Coach Deal said "we were able to make some adjustments at half and knew we could pressure them into mistakes. When your defense starts making plays it gets your offense going and we just were enjoying it. It was our first conference game so we started a little nervous but settled quickly and made sure we were the better team tonight."
The Panthers take on Bellevue University tomorrow afternoon in Bellevue. The Bruins are currently ranked #6 in the nation. York improves to 10-6, and 1-0 in conference.
