It took five sets but the Panthers were able to overcome a slow start to beat teh visiting Indians from Haskell University. Halie Ewing (JR/Liberty, Mo) led the Panthers with 20 kills, followed by Kylie Wroot (JR/North Platte, neb) with 14 and Nicole Gates (SR/Centennial, Colo) with 13.
The Panthers found themselves behind 6-0 before Gates got the Panthers on the board with her first kill. Haskell hit their way with ease in the first set as Jalyn Frazier accounted for 10 kills. The Panthers had several unforced errors that allowed them to fall behind and lose 15-25.
In set two the scores switched as the Panthers won 25-15. Kelsey Taylor (FR/Moore, Okla) started off with strong serving bringing the Panthers up five points in the game to start. Ewing and Wroot led York with their hitting as they secured set two.
The turn of the match occurred in set three as the Panthers found themselves behind 6-9. Alyssa Didier (JR/Littleton, Colo) served her way to 12 straight points with the help of her teammates. Before the Indians had noticed they found themselves down 9-18. The Panthers went on to win 25-19.
Set four was neck and neck most of the way and the Panthers found themselves in a tough spot down 23-24 and in the receive position. A hard attack by Ewing looked to be in the deep corner, that would have tied the game, unfortunately the up ref called it out and sent the teams back to the sidelines preparing for a fifth and decisive set.
Just as the other set this one was a nail biter and it came down to Didier service rotation where the Panthers found themselves gain control and go up in the set 10-8. York never looked back and Wroot made sure to finish the match off as she killed the Melanie Baxa (SR/Tobias, Neb) assist down for the final point.
The Patnher improved to 14-20 on the season and face Mount Marty on Saturday afternoon.
