YORK, Neb. – The York University volleyball team wrapped up the season with a 3-1 win over Southwestern Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers complete the season at 13-21, including 3-10 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team was led by
Jassania Joseph's 15-kill effort.
Jai Dotson notched 11 kills while
Emma Kerley contributed eight.
Ronan Merriex accounted for three kills while
Amber White had two.
Meadow Nusbaum dished out 22 assists while
Kensey Clifton distributed 19. Clifton also served up three aces.
Defensively, Dotson had eight block assists while Kerley had five. Joseph notched four while Merriex and
Brianna Lemke had three blocks each.
Valentina Jimenez garnered a team-best 13 digs.
The Panthers opened up the match with kills from
Jai Dotson and Kerley. After an error by the visitors, Clifton served up an ace. Another error pushed the margin to 5-0. Leading 9-8, Joseph had a kill. Two plays later,
Florencia Felmer served up an ace. Up 13-10, Merriex had a kill.
Jai Dotson and
Brianna Lemke combined for a block. Dotson and Kerley had a block to make it 16-10. Two more points on blocks from Dotson and Kerley, as well as a kill from Kerley, extended the advantage to 19-10. Joseph's block gave the squad a 25-17 win.
Down 8-5 in the second set, Joseph had a pair of kills en route to knotting the score at 8-8. Trailing 14-13, Joseph went back to work with another point. Nusbaum had an ace before Joseph tacked on another kill. Leading 17-16, three errors by the Builders gave the Panthers a 20-16 edge. However, Southwestern won the frame 25-22.
York bounced back for a 25-15 win in the third stanza. Up 7-6, an error started a run for the Panthers. Kerley had a block and a kill. A couple more errors by the Builders and an ace from
Kory Anschutz extended the margin to 14-6. With the score at 20-14, Joseph and Dotson had kills. Clifton served up an ace to complete the 10-point victory.
The Panthers led 12-10 in the fourth stanza before Joseph, Merriex and Kerley added kills. Dotson and White added points for a 19-14 edge. Joseph's point pushed the margin to four, 22-18. Southwestern pulled within one before Joseph stuffed an attempt. Jimenez's kill made it 24-21 before Merriex wrapped up the win with a point off a pass from Nusbaum.
For the match, York had 45 kills and hit .189. The team dished out 45 assists and tallied nine aces. The Panthers posted 20 block assists to go along with four solo blocks.
