Box Score YORK - York College was able to outlast the barrage of offense from Bellevue University in the first half, to move to 2-0 on the season with a 86-84 upset win over the nationally ranked Bruines.
Bellevue came out shooting as they made their first eight three-point attempts and shot 58% in the first half. The Bruins built a 20 point lead in the first half before the Panthers were able to bring it down to 13 when the half ended.
York's head coach Tree Burks knew the Bruins weren't going to be able to keep their offense that hot the entire game so he gave his team a solid, upbeat pep talk during the intermission. "Bellevue came out hot. I knew they were a good team, but I told my guys to only be down 13 points, when they shoot like that isn't a terrible thing. I told them to play our game and the law of averages will even out," Burks said. He was right, as the Bruins only made one three-point basket the entire second half and the Panthers outscored them 48-33.
Patrick Burnett (SR/Erie, Pa) scored a game high 32 points on 11-of-14 for the game. He is biggest basket of the night came with just over 10 seconds to play as he drove through the lane and split the defense for the two-point basket to give York the lead for good.
Aaron Munday-Rashid (JR/Melbourne, Australia) was the only other Panther to score in double figures as he added 13 points. Nevell Lenard (SR/Los Angeles, Calif) led the squad with eight rebounds.
Bellevue had a balanced scoring effort as four players scored in double figures, but it was York's up tempo offense late in the game that surpassed the Bruins.
