Men's Basketball survives against Avila

YORK - York jumped out to a 12-0 lead in a game that should have been an easy win for the Panthers. However, the underdog, and outmatched Avila University Eagles fought back and had head coach Tree Burks feeling uneasy all night.

"We knew we were a better team talent wise, but that doesn't always mean the better team will win. They gave us a run for our money and I'm just glad to get the win. It wasn't pretty and we've got some things to figure out to get better," said Burks.

Aaron Munday-Rashid (JR/Melbourne, Australia) gave the lift the Panthers needed with five seconds left when he drained a three-pointer right next to his bench. That put York up 80-77 and just a glimmer of hope for the Eagles to force overtime. Avila's Byron Cooke through up a desperation shot that rimmed out as time expired to the relief of Panther fans.

Lance Ewell (JR/Brock, Texas) led the Panthers with a career high 30 points on 10-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Patrick Burnett (SR/Erie, Pa) was the only other York player to score in double figures as he finished with 11 points. Roc Johnson (SR/Inglewood, Calif) was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc for York off of the bench.

York shot 60% from the field for the game, but struggled with turnovers as they committed 18.

York will close out their 2018 home schedule this Wednesday as they host Sterling College at 8:00 p.m.
