Men's Soccer: Rodriguez hat trick leads Panthers to 4-1 win

Box Score

YORK - Johan Rodriguez (SO/Texas City, Texas) scored three goals as the Panthers routed the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers 4-1 Saturday afternoon at the Cornerstone Sports Complex. The hat trick was Rodriguez first as a collegiate player.

Rodriguez gave the Panthers the lead in the 21st minute of play after a solid pass from Alexandre Motta (FR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) helped develop the attack. Even though the Panthers controlled the ball they couldn't find the back of the net again in the first half.

After some halftime adjustments by coach Alex Latorre the Panthers stepped up the pressure even more in the second half. Twelve minutes into the half Giovanni Froldi (SO/Campinas, Brazil) passed the ball down the right side of the field toward Jorge Alencar (FR/Recife, Brazil). Alencar was able to take a couple dribbles toward the corner before sending a fantastic cross over the middle. Rodriguez was able to elevate above the defense and head the ball into the back of the net for his second goal. Less than one minute later he picked up his hat trick as the Panthers were rolling.

Arturo Gutierrez III (FR/Hacienda Heights, Calif) scored the final goal for the Panthers on a penalty kick after a foul was called in the box.

Francisco Esteves (SO/Tomar, Portugal) picked up the win in goal for the Panthers as the team improved to 3-1 on the season.

York will play again on Wednesday as they host Mount Marty in nonconference action at 3:30 p.m. The game will be played at the Cornerstone Sports Complex.
