YORK - It was a close match on the scoreboard at intermission with the Panthers clinging to a 1-0 lead. That all changed in the second half as the Panthers scored five more goals en route to a 6-0 win.
York didn't waste any time getting on the board as Thiago Pinheiro (SO/Itu, Brazil) scored off of a pass from Matias Castano (SO/Payson, Utah) in the seventh minute. The other 38 minutes of the half saw the Panthers control the possession and fire six more shots. Bethany didn't get a single shot on their stat sheet in the half.
The second half the Panthers needed just two minutes to get the goals started. Alexandre Motta (SO/Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored the goal off of a free-kick from just outside the penalty area. Five minutes later Jorge Keller (SO/Montenegro, Brazil) finished a one-touch shot from Arturo Gutierrez III (SO/Hacienda Heights, Calif). Four minutes later Castano found Jorge Alencar (SO/Recife, Brazil) who finished for the goal to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead. Igor Fernandes (SO/Brasilia, Brazil) and Vitor Timm (SO/Porto Alegre, Brazil) finished off the Panthers' scoring efforts as York continued to dominate the game.
York picked up a total of 20 shots, 14 of which were on frame. The Swedes had just five total shots on goal and Gabriel Cabral (SO/Campinas, Brazil) saved the three that were on frame.
The Panthers improve to 8-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in KCAC action. York is scheduled to play Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday at the Cornerstone Sports Complex at 3:30 p.m.
