YORK - York's defense was the talk of the night as they pulled off the upset against Kansas Wesleyan in with a 56-51 win on senior night. The Panthers struggled offensively shooting under 36% from the floor, including just 12% from beyond the arc. However, Tree Burks' team stepped up their defense and kept the visiting Coyotes to just 31% from the floor.
With York's offense struggling the defense stepped up and kept KWU from any type of rhythm. York dominated in the paint outscoring the Coyotes 39-22. The Panthers also forced 11 turnovers, scoring 13 points off of those.
Patrick Burnett (SR/Erie, Pa) scored 10 points and nine rebounds in his senior send-off. He was the lone Panther to score in double figures. Nevell Lenard (SR/Los Angeles, Calif) scored eight points and added six rebounds to his stat line as well. Lance Ewell (JR/Brock, Texas) scored nine points off of the bench.
York will travel to Tabor on Saturday for their regular season finale. The Panthers are currently in a tie for eighth with Bethany. As all KCAC teams finish out the regular season York could end up as high as sixth.
