Box Score YORK - York College had an offensive explosion in the second half to erase the five-point halftime deficit to beat the visiting College of St. Mary Flames 77-72. The Panthers shot 76% from the floor in the second half scoring 51 points in the frame alone. Amaia Diez (JR/Pamplona, Spain) led four Panthers in double figures with 17 points.
After a sluggish start offensively the Panthers had their work cut out to stay in the game. York couldn't make any shot they attempted, whether inside the paint, beyond the three-point line, or at the charity stripe in the first quarter. They fell behind quickly and trailed 21-10 after the first quarter. Neither team did much scoring in the second period as turnovers were the name of the game during those ten minutes of play. The Flames held on to lead 31-26 at the intermission.
The second half though was a different story offensively for the Panthers as they scored 22 points in the third quarter and 29 points in the final ten minutes of play. York went on a 12-4 run in the first three minutes of the third to take their first lead of the game 38-37. The Flames hung around for a while and built their lead back up to seven points at 50-43 with less than a minute remaining in the period. Brileigh Slaughter (FR/Lake Charles, La.) converted on an old-fashioned three-point play and Yiones Keith scored a layup to bring the Panthers within two points at the end of the quarter.
Slaughter and Keith led the Panthers in the fourth quarter as they pulled away from the Flames as they built multiple seven-point leads throughout. The Panthers held off a Flames comeback late in the game and converted free throws down the stretch.
Yionis Keith (SO/Oklahoma City, Okla) finished with 15 points, followed by Julia Trujillo (SR/Denver, Colo) with 13 points and six rebounds. Deja Derrell (SR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the other Panther to score in double figures with 11 points. She also led the team with four assists.
There was a combined 56 turnovers in the game, but neither team could really make the other pay as the team's combined to convert those turnovers into just 41 points.
