Box Score YORK - York College opened their season on Wednesday night against a high-powered Doane Tigers offense. The Tigers came into the game with five games under their belt, while the Panthers were making their 2021-22 season debut. The Panthers were scheduled for a game last Saturday but that was canceled due to the other team not having enough players able to play. York's high energy was expected after a long preseason, and it looked to be a factor early in the game as the Panthers jumped out to an 11-4 lead. However, the Tigers didn't become unsettled and rode the wave as they clawed back into the contest and led by four at intermission 42-38.
York couldn't find an answer for the post game of Doane's Josiah Gardiner. His size was a factor as he battled his way to 24 points, 21 of those from the paint. That inside game allowed the Tigers to shoot over 68% from the floor in the second half.
Key Statistics
Doane shot 62% from the field and scored 51 points inside the paint. York shot a solid 46% from the floor but couldn't answer the post game of the Tigers. Four of the Tigers' five starters scored in double figures.
By The Numbers
Erik Talton led the Panthers in his debut with 17 points. Twelve of those came on some big shots in the first half, four of which came from downtown. The Tigers turned the ball over 15 times but the Panthers were only able to convert those to 13 points. Brent Clark added 12 points and Isaiah King scored 10 points off of the bench for York.
