Box Score Ottawa, KAN. - York College shocked host Ottawa University on Monday night as the Panthers won 75-63. York used a slow-paced offense and a zone defense to fluster the Braves into shooting less than 33% from the floor.
York jumped ahead quickly and held a two-possession lead for the first ten minutes of the ball game. Over the final ten of the first half the Panthers were able to extend their lead to 11 points as Keyaun Hoskin found Jhi Jackson streaming down the court for a last-second layup to give the Panthers a 41-30 lead at the break.
In the second half the Panthers went up by 13 points, but a 10-0 run brought the Braves with two at 48-46. It was a back-and-forth battle over the next seven minutes of play before the Braves took their first lead of the ball game at 59-57 with 7:44 remaining. Tyreece Berry made a basket to tie the game at 59 on the next possession and Eric Lenear gave the Panthers the lead for good with 6:56 to play. York's defense stepped in after their lead was quickly relinquished and didn't allow a Braves' field goal again until their were 46 seconds remaining. Over the final 7:44 of the game the Panthers outscored the Braves 16-4.
York had four players score in double figures, lead by Tyreece Berry with 17 points. Keyaun Hoskin picked up a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Eric Lenear added 14 points, and Jhi Jackson finished with 10.
The Panthers outscored the Braves 36-18 in the paint. York used a patient offense and looked for the inside game which helped them shot 49% from the floor. On the contrary the Braves shot 38 shots from beyond the arc and shot just 32% from the floor.
York will host McPherson College on Thursday night with an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
