Looking to avenge their loss against Central Baptist just a week ago the Panthers made sure their offense was clicking this time when they took the court Friday night in the Freeman Center. What transpired over the next two hours was a stellar effort by the Panthers as they scored 109 points on 55% shooting from the field. It did take about five minutes for the Panthers to warm up as the Mustangs took a four point lead three minutes into the game. York used a 10-0 run to turn the game around fueled by back-to-back 3's by Reggie Sonnier and Dylan Brewer. Over the final 15 minutes of the first half the Panthers quietly built a large cushion before going into the half up 53-38.
Both teams' offenses were scoring at will the second half each posting 50+ points and shooting over 52% from the field. With a big lead the crowd didn't have to do much cheering to keep the Panthers motivated but the fans were on their feet midway through the second way as York would score on back-to-back alley oop dunks; the second by 5'10" guard Deon Willis as he glided through the air slamming home a perfect pass from Tre Howe. Central Baptist would call a quick timeout to try to get the crowd to quiet down and allow his team to gain their composure.
The two teams traded buckets the remaining part of the game as the Panthers were well in control. Andre Vaughn led all scorers with 22 points including 6-8 from behind the arc. Dylan Brewer scored 18 points and Willis also added 18 off the bench. Reggie Sonnier was another Panther scoring in double digits with his 12 points that went along with his 7 rebounds.
Coach Deal was very excited about the win. "We had a terrible game last week as we couldn't make any shots offensively and then defensively we didn't move our feet. We went to pressure them and then let them run right by us for a layup. Tonight we had to keep them from getting to the hoop. Once we started to make a few buckets we got into a rhythm and it just started going right for us."
The Panthers have a tough matchup tomorrow afternoon as they host College of the Ozarks. The Panthers improve to 13-9, 3-5 in conference.
