YORK - Less than 24 hours after beating the 14th ranked Bruins York College looked to become 3-0 for the first time in coach Tree Burks tenure. However, the Hastings College Broncos withheld a late Panther rally to escape with the 90-87 win.
York started out the game building a 12 point lead with just six minutes gone in the first half. But the Broncos stayed the course and ate away at the lead as both teams scored 43 points in the first half.
The Broncos owned the early part of the second half as they built their lead to nine with 13:13 left in the game. York held strong and kept it a game as they got the deficit down to one possession with under a minute to play in the game. York had a chance at the end as a missed free throw by the Broncos allowed Nevell Lenard (SR/Los Angeles, Calif) to rebound the ball and head up court, unfortunately, his last second heave came up short as time expired.
Patrick Burnett (SR/Erie, Pa) ended the game with an identical line from the night before scoring 32 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. Aaron Munday-Rashid (JR/Melbourne, Australia) added 14 points, while Nevell Lenard added 10.
The Broncos won the game at the charity stripe as they converted 19-of-27, while the Panthers were 6-of-10.
York is 2-1 on the season and will travel to Arizona this next weekend to play in the Arizona Christian Classic.
