Panthers comeback falls short against Sterling

Box Score

YORK - After not playing for six weeks the Panthers looked like a preseason team early in the game against Sterling College. The Warriors came into the game with 12 games under their belt while the Panthers had only played four games all season due to several Covid related issues. The experience for the Warriors seemed to be the difference in the 73-70 loss for the Panthers.

York held a two-point advantage at the break 35-33, but during the second half had a scoring drought that extended for several minutes. The Warriors built their lead up to 12 points with under five minutes remaining. After a timeout by the Panthers, it seemed like York's luck might have changed as AV Banks got hot from distance and sank a couple of three-point baskets. However, the Warriors seemed to have some answers each time and the Panthers just couldn't climb all of the way back.

After a couple of misses from the charity stripe by the Warriors, the Panthers had an opportunity to tie the game with under three seconds. Tyreece Berry tried a quick turn-and-shoot at the buzzer but his attempt came up just short as the Warriors finished on top 73-70.

Banks led all York scorers with 20 points, mainly due to his 6-of-10 from behind the arc. Keyaun Hoskin added 17 points, while Webster Simues was strong defensively with 12 rebounds. He also chipped in six assists.

York struggled on the boards as a team with the Warriors having a +11 advantage. The Panthers also shot just 35% from the floor, while Sterling shot 44%.

The Panthers are back in action Monday night as they travel to McPherson College for a 5:00 p.m. tip. York will host Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday with a game time of 7:00 p.m.

York is currently 1-4 on the season.
