DES MOINES, Iowa – The York University men's wrestling team had a solid showing at the Grand View Open Saturday.
In the 125-lb. division,
Barrett Stickelman registered a win via fall in 4:22 in the consolation bracket. He then upended another foe via fall in just 2:10 before dropping his second match of the day.
In the 285-lb. division,
Marce Vasquez garnered a victory in the consolation bracket in just 1:37 with a fall. Vasquez then bested an opponent from Texas Wesleyan with a fall at the 6:32 mark. For his work, he picked up 7.5 points.
Ernest Grant accounted for 11.5 points with his solid showing in the 125-lb. class. In the consolation bracket, he garnered a technical fall win by a 20-5 score. Grant notched a hard-fought 11-10 decision over his opponent from Montana State-Northern. He continued his impressive performance with a pin in 3:15 before notching another win via fall in just 54 seconds. Grant notched a major decision win (17-4) over a foe from Southeast C.C.
Luis Vela earned 5.5 points at the 125-lb. division. York opened the tournament with a pin over his foe from Morningside in 4:31. He continued with a technical fall 18-0 beating of his foe from Oklahoma Wesleyan before suffering two losses.
Kade Wersland picked up two points in the 157-lb. division. He opened the tournament with a 9-1 major decision win over his opponent from Midland.
At the 165-lb. class,
Jaydon Dungan earned eight points for the Panthers. He won his opening match with a technical fall (20-4) against his foe from Colby C.C. After pinning his foe from Barton in 3:34, Dungan won a consolation bracket match with a fall in 4:06 en route to eight points.
Caleb Davis earned three points in the 174-lb. division. He picked up a sudden victory over his opponent from Benedictine (10-7) in the consolation bracket.
Kaden Garcia picked up three points in the 197-lb. class. He opened the tournament by pinning his foe in 1:12.
Malaki Morales-Perez earned 10 points in the 285-lb. division. After dropping his first match, he pinned his next three foes. Morales-Perez notched a win over his opponent from Marian with a pin in 2:21. He notched a win in 6:37 against his foe from Lindsey Wilson before quickly dismantling his opponent with a 47-second pin (Marian University).
Nash Crane earned five points in the 285-lb. class. He won a consolation bracket match against his foe from Graceland with a pin in 3:54.
The Panthers return to action Saturday, Nov. 23 when they compete at the UNK Open at 9 a.m.
