KEARNEY, Neb. – The York University men's wrestling team put forth a good showing at the Younes Hospitality Open Saturday.
In the Elite 285-lb. class,
Marce Vasquez recorded a decision in the consolation bracket with an 8-1 victory over his foe from Northern State.
In the 125-lb. division,
Barrett Stickelman picked up 1.5 points after registering a major decision win over his opponent, 14-4, in the consolation bracket.
Luis Vela garnered two points in the class. He won via decision over an opponent from Northeastern J.C. by a 7-0 score.
Ernest Grant tallied six points in the division. He opened the tournament with a 17-0 tech. fall win over Western Colorado. His second-round score was nearly identical, taking a 17-1 tech. fall win over Northeastern J.C. In the third round, he posted a 4-3 decision over his opponent from Southeast C.C.
Hector Holguin picked up a point in the 133-lb. class. In the consolation bracket, he earned a sudden victory (12-9) over his foe from Northeastern J.C.
The 157-lb. division saw
Kade Wersland register back-to-back wins via falls to start the tournament. He won the first one in 3:44 before taking down his foe in 4:32 in the second round.
The Panthers did well in the 184-lb. division.
Cameron Campos earned 4.0 points after notching a win via fall in just 2:00.
Dayton Fraser accounted for 8.0 points in the class. In the consolation bracket, he started things off with a pin in 4:20. He bested Campos with a fall in 6:50 before picking up his third consecutive win via fall in just 4:08.
In the 285-lb. amateur division,
Malaki Morales-Perez scored 4.5 points. In the consolation bracket, he posted a 10-0 major decision win over his foe from Barton before pinning his opponent from Southeast C.C. in 2:06.
The Panthers return to action Sunday, Dec. 8 at the FHSU Bob Smith Open.
