BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The York University men's wrestling team had an outstanding performance Saturday at the Oklahoma Wesleyan Invite Saturday.
In the 125-lb. class,
Barrett Stickelman picked up six points for the Panthers. He posted back-to-back wins via fall to start the tournament. He won the first match in 5:18 before besting his second foe in the quarterfinals in 6:24.
Teammate
Ernest Grant accounted for a third-place effort in the class and tallied 12 points. In the consolation bracket, Grant notched an 18-2 technical fall win. He followed it up with another 22-7 technical fall win. He advanced to the third-place match via a win by injury. Grant claimed the bronze medal with a 17-2 technical fall win.
Hector Holguin posted two points in the 133-lb. division. He notched a 13-3 major win in the consolation bracket.
In the same class,
Konner Alejandro notched five points. He picked up a win via fall in 3:18 before garnering a 6-0 decision win in the quarterfinals.
Johnathon Vincent tallied 3.0 points at 157. He opened the tournament with a win in 2:06 for an impressive match.
The 165-lb. class saw
Jaydon Dungan record 3.5 points. In the consolation bracket, Dungan opened with a 21-5 technical fall win. He followed it up with a 15-5 major decision victory in the consolation second round.
Caleb Davis posted 9.5 points en route to a fourth-place finish. He opened the tournament with a major decision victory over his foe from Oklahoma Wesleyan with a 10-0 score. Davis notched a fall in 2:38 in his next match. After moving to the consolation bracket, Davis started things with a 3-0 decision. He followed it up with a 7-1 victory to move to the semifinals. Davis picked up an 11-0 major decision win over an opponent from Tarleton State before taking fourth.
Dayton Fraser and
Cameron Campos each picked up three points in the 184-lb. division. Fraser accounted for a win in the consolation bracket with a fall in 6:16. Campos started the tournament with a pin in 1:26 over his opponent from Schreiner.
Marce Vasquez took home the silver medal in the 285-lb. class while
Malaki Morales-Perez earned 2.5 points. Vasquez won his opening match as his opponent had an injury. Vasquez followed it up with a win via fall in 3:59. In the quarterfinals, he posted an 11-2 major decision win. Vasquez advanced to the finals with a 4-1 decision over Kaden Darwin. Morales-Perez won via forfeit for his victory.
The Panthers return to action Friday when they compete at the Battle in the Bluegrass at 9 a.m.
