WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The York University men's wrestling team took ninth at the Battle in the Bluegrass Friday.
In the 125 lb. division,
Barrett Stickelman picked up 6.5 points en route to a seventh-place finish. In the consolation bracket, he posted a 21-4 technical fall victory against an opponent from St. Andrews. Stickelman garnered a 6-2 victory in the seventh-place match against his opponent form Malachi Aispuro.
Hector Holguin accounted for 4.5 points with his eighth-place finish in the 133 lb. class. He posted a 12-4 major decision win over his foe from St. Thomas in the consolation bracket.
Elijah Kaawa tallied an eighth-place effort and 4.5 points in the 141 lb. division. In the consolation bracket, he recorded a 15-5 major decision win over a foe from Waldorf.
Johnathon Vincent picked up a point in the 157 lb. class. He recorded a 9-3 decision in the championship side of the bracket against a foe from Cumberlands.
In the 165-lb. class,
Jaydon Dungan earned a sixth-place finish and secured 14.0 points. He opened the tournament with a technical fall win against an opponent from the University of Rio Grande by an 18-1 score. After dropping a match, he pinned his foe from Waldorf in 4:40. Dungan followed it up with another technical fall win, this time by a 16-1 score against an opponent from Indiana Tech.
Caleb Davis picked up 1.5 points in the 174-lb. division. He posted a 12-0 major decision win over an opponent from Keiser in the consolation bracket.
Dayton Fraser narrowly missed the podium after taking fourth place for 16 points in the 184-lb. class. He fought back in the consolation bracket, pinning his opponent from Marian in 4:30. In the second round, Fraser notched a hard-fought 10-8 decision. After pinning his opponent from Keiser in 6:09, Fraser secured a spot in the third-place match with a 15-6 major decision win over an opponent from St. Ambrose.
York recorded 3.0 points as
Tanner Hawkins was eighth in the 197-lb. division.
The Panthers return to action Saturday, Jan. 4, when they compete at the University of Saint Mary.
