HASTINGS, Neb. – The York University men's wrestling team put forth a solid day at the Hastings Dual Saturday.

Head coach Tyler Bell's team was strong in the 125-lb. division. Barrett Stickelman picked up six points while Luis Vela tallied five points. Stickelman pinned his first foe in 3:55. In the quarterfinal match, Stickelman bested his opponent from Midland with a pin in 4:12. In the consolation bracket, Vela posted a 21-5 technical fall win before notching a pin in 2:30 against his foe from Sioux Falls, earning a spot in the consolation semifinals.

At 141, Elijah Kaawa recorded 2.5 points for the Panthers. He opened the tournament with an 8-5 victory over his opponent from Hastings. In the consolation bracket, he edged an opponent from Fort Hays State by a 6-5 count. Kaawa tallied a 10-8 victory over Sioux Falls before suffering a medical forfeit.

Dayton Fraser earned three points for York in the 174-lb. division. He opened the tournament with a pin against his opponent from Oklahoma Wesleyan in 6:32.

In the 285-lb. class, Marce Vasquez notched a third-place finish for 10.5 points while Malaki Morales-Perez totaled three points. Vasquez pinned his first opponent in just 55 seconds. In the quarterfinal, he earned a 4-1 win over his foe from Sioux Falls. In the consolation semifinals, Vasquez recorded his second pin of the day – this time in 1:14. Vasquez garnered the bronze medal with a decisive 5-0 decision in the third-place match. He pitched a shutout against his foe from Chadron State.  

Morales-Perez accounted for a win via fall in the first round. He picked up the victory in just 46 seconds.  

The Panthers return to action Friday when they compete at the Avila Dual starting at 6 p.m.
