YORK, Neb. – The York University men's wrestling team picked up an emphatic 36-18 win over Ottawa Thursday evening.
The Panthers are now 2-1 on the season.
Head coach
Tyler Bell's team started things off in fine style. In the 125-lb. division,
Ernest Grant notched a technical fall win over his foe by an 18-2 count. Teammate
Hector Holguin won at 133 with a 19-3 technical fall score.
Trailing 12-10,
Johnathon Vincent pinned his foe in 2:11 at the 157-lb. class, giving the Panthers a 16-12 lead.
Kade Wersland garnered a win via fall in just 83 seconds for a victory at 165. His win pushed the score to 22-12.
In the 174-lb. division,
Caleb Davis earned a hard-fought 19-16 win over his opponent. Davis had to come from behind to tie the match in the final seconds before earning the three-point victory in overtime.The sudeen victory pushed the overall score to 25-12.
Leading 25-18,
Tanner Hawkins thwarted his opponent at 19. He bested the foe by a score of 16-1 for a technical fall in 5:00 of work.
Marce Vasquez closed out the match with a pin in 33 seconds at 285, securing the six points for York.
The Panthers return to action Saturday when they compete at the Hastings College Open. Matches are slated to start at 9 a.m.
