Men's Wrestling: Panthers compete at Bob Smith Open

FORT HAYS, Kan. – The York University men's wrestling team competed at the Bob Smith Open Sunday, which was hosted by Fort Hays State.

The Panthers were represented by three student-athletes.

In the 133-lb. division, Cole Schaub lost his first match via pin fall in the second round. He quickly rebounded for a 19-3 technical fall win over Gabriel Allen of Colorado State (club). Schaub recorded 12 points in the second round of action en route to the victory. Schaub dropped his next match in the tournament.

In the 174-lb. class, Caleb Davis pushed Marlin Whyte of Western Colorado to the brink. The two were tied at 9-9 after Davis tied the match as time expired in regulation. However, Whyte won 15-9 in sudden victory. Davis bounced back for an emphatic 16-3 major decision win over Dominic Ricciardi of Barton C.C. Davis was up 8-0 just 2:50 into the match before cruising to the win. However, Davis fell via technical fall to his opponent from New Mexico Highlands in the ensuing round.
