MIAMI, Okla. – The York University men's wrestling team put forth a solid effort at the 2025 Golden Norsemen Open on Saturday.
Luis Vela picked up 2.5 points in the tournament. Vela posted a victory in the consolation round with a pin in 4:02 in the 125-lb. class.
Kade Wersland notched 5.5 points in the 165-lb. division. He defeated his foe from Texas Wesleyan in 5:44 before picking up a forfeit victory in the fourth round of consolation matches.
The 174-lb. class saw
Caleb Davis earn a third-place finish and 9.5 points. After dropping his first contest, he received a bye. In the second round, Davis posted a technical fall win by a score of 17-0. He continued his solid day with a 15-6 major decision win. In the consolation semifinals, Davis garnered another major decision, this time by a 10-2 count. Davis claimed the bronze medal with a 13-7 decision over his foe from Southeast Community College.
Dayton Fraser earned 5.5 points in the 174-lb. division. After picking up a bye and a victory by default in the consolation bracket, Fraser pinned his foe from Texas Wesleyan in 3:38 to reach the consolation semifinals.
In the 184-lb. class,
Cameron Campos opened with a pin fall of his foe from Northeast Oklahoma in just 1:25. In the consolation bracket, he notched a 3-0 victory against another opponent from Northeast Oklahoma. In the same division,
Kaden Garcia earned 3.0 points for York.
Malaki Morales-Perez earned 4.5 points in the 285-lb. division. In the consolation bracket, he won via fall in 2:31. In the fourth round, Morales-Perez garnered a 13-2 major decision victory over his opponent from Barton.
In the 141-lb. class,
Cade Wathke picked up 2.0 points. He scored early and often in an 18-13 victory in the second round, coming against Northeast Oklahoma.
The Panthers return to action Thursday, Feb. 6 at the Friends Dual starting at 6 p.m.
