WICHITA, Kan. – The York University men's wrestling team was well represented at the NAIA National Championships this week by two standouts.
The Panthers were led by
Ernest Grant and
Brayden Smith.
Grant, competing at the 125-lb. division, lost his opening match, but made a strong showing in the consolation bracket. He posted a major decision victory over his first-round consolation bracket foe, Garrett Johnson. In the ensuing round, he bested Saoul Prado by an 8-4 decision. Grant bested Jose Gonzalez by a 16-10 decision for his fourth consecutive win.
Grant lost a hard-fought match in sudden victory by a 6-3 count, wrapping up his tournament.
Smith, competing at the 149-lb. class, suffered an injury in his opening match just three minutes in.
