COLUMBIA, S.C. – The York University men's track and field team was outstanding at the NCCAA National Championships, which wrapped up Friday.
Andrew Heinrichs and
Tytan Taylor combined to go one-two in the decathlon. Heinrichs won the event with 5,928 points while Taylor snagged the silver medal with 5,682 points.
Jaden Beske was eighth after posting 4,903 points.
Alphonse Jackson earned the silver medal in the shot put. He garnered a mark of 15.51m for his best effort of the day. Jackson picked up the bronze medal in the hammer throw after an effort of 48.08m.
Heinrichs posted a personal-best mark of 48.84 in the 400m, which was good enough for the bronze medal.
Trenton Orlando also accounted for a personal-best time in the event, crossing the line in 50.92.
Cooper Dillan posted a top-10 mark in the javelin and discus. The rookie took sixth in the javelin with a throw of 48.65m. In the discus, he finished ninth after recording a mark of 40.16m.
Taylor narrowly missed a top-10 effort in the long jump. He recorded a leap of 6.45m in the event, which was good enough for 11
th. In the triple jump, Taylor secured an effort of 12.88m, which was good enough for 14
th.
Taylor notched a 25
th-place effort in the 100m after crossing in 11.34.
Jordan Norton was right behind him in 26
th after posting a time of 11.36.
Norton accounted for a 22
nd-place finish in the 200m with a time of 22.45.
The quartet of Taylor, Heinrichs, Orlando and Norton earned a sixth-place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 43.11.
York finished eighth at the event after posting 45 points.
The Panthers return to action at the NAIA National Championships May 21-23 in Marion, Ind.
