The Panthers used some timely hitting this afternoon as they beat Dakota Wesleyan 4-2. After taking yesterday off because of the weather York jumped out early when Sean Goodall (SR/San Francisco, CA) singled to right field scoring Jordan Pella (SR/Adams, NE) from second in the top of the fourth inning. York tacked on two more in the seventh as Garrett Anctil (JR/Clovis,CA) hit a deep ball to center field. The Wesleyan center fielder dropped the fly ball allowing both Rudy Perez (SR/Stockton, CA) and Anthony Enriquez (SR/Sacramento,CA) to score on the two out error. An insurance run in the eighth helped the Panthers pad their lead going into the bottom half of the inning. John Mead (JR/Martinez, CA) got into some trouble as he allowed a lead-off walk and then an RBI double that allowed the first fun of the game for the Tigers. PJ Matha (JR/Las Vegas, NV) came in to relieve Mead and got the Panthers out of a bases loaded jam, only allowing one more run across the plate.
With a 4-2 lead Matha struck out the side in the 9th to end the ball game and eliminate Wesleyan from tournament.
John Mead picked up the win going 7 1/3 and striking out 5 batters. PJ Matha was credited with the save. Enriquez, Goodall, and Ivan Perez (JR/Clovis, CA) led the Panthers with two hits a piece. All four Panther runs came with two outs.
The Panthers picked up win number 40 on the season and will play at 7:00pm tonight against the host team, and number 1 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, Oklahoma City.
