Baseball: Panthers use five-run fourth inning to beat Saint Xavier 6-0

York College scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take control of the elimination game and Tim Emory (JR/San Jose, Calif) threw a shut out to help the Panthers move on in the NAIA Opening Round.

Saint Xavier had the Panthers on their heels offensively as Garrett Anctil (SR/Clovis, Calif) was the only batter to reach base safely prior to the fourth inning. He did so with a deep double to left field that hit off the fence.

However, the nation's number one scoring team came out in full force during the fourth inning to secure the win. With two outs Jose Bueno (SR/Oak Hills, Calif) and Michael Johnson (SR/Union City, Calif) hit back-to-back singles before Anctil loaded the bases being hit by pitch. An infield single for Nick Carney (JR/Pleasanton, Calif) got the Panthers the winning run. However a two RBI single by Joseph Terazon (SR/Miami, Fla) and a two RBI double by Lamar Smith (JR/Rodeo, Calif) put the Panthers up by five.

York added another run in the sixth as Anctil singled to third and scored Josh Roman (JR/Newark, Calif) from third.

Bueno and Anctil each had two hits apiece for the Panthers as Terazon and Smith each had two RBIs. Emory went the complete game earning his ninth win on the season. He struck out four and walked five.

The Panthers are now 45-16 on the season and will face Clarke University at 4 p.m. in another elimination game. Live stats/live video can be found here.
