Baseball: Panthers get back in win column with 11-5 win over Spires

YORK – York College scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back as they beat the Spires from the University of Saint Mary 11-5. The Panthers pounded out 16 hits, ten of which were extra base hits.

Timmion Hughes (SR/Vallejo, Calif), Nick Carney (SR/Pleasanton, Calif), and Kevin Olmstead (JR/Great Bend, Ore) led the Panthers with three hits apiece. Carney and Connor Towle (SO/Keller, Texas) added three RBIs each to lead the team.

DB Vidal (SO/Livermore, Calif), Isaiah Bond (JR/Union City, Calif), and Carney all went yard for the Panthers, while Olmstead and Towle each had two doubles, and Billy Johnson (SR/Oakland, Calif) added a triple to his resume.

Bryan Faucher (SR/Las Vegas, Nev) picked up the win going two and a third innings in relief and not allowing a run. Justin Hukill (SR/Fallbrook, Calif) picked up the save as he closed out the game, striking out two of the five batters he faced.

After allowing two runs in the first inning the Panthers answered back after Carney and Towle hit back-to-back doubles, a single by Bond, and another double by Olmstead.

York added a run in each of the next three innings before being kept scoreless in the fifth and sixth. Carney's tenth homerun in the seventh inning added another run before the Panthers offense scored three more in the bottom of the eighth to provide enough insurance runs for Hukill to close out the game.

The Panthers improve to 20-16 on the season and 9-4 in conference. York hosts the Spires Monday afternoon with the doubleheader slotted for a 1 p.m. start.
