Avila, MO - The Panthers swept the doubleheader against Avila Saturday afternoon 8-6 and 11-5.
Game One
After spotting the Eagles four runs in the first inning Matt Lindsley (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) settled down and allowed just one run over the next five innings of play. The offense got on track in the second inning scoring four runs before taking a 7-4 lead in the sixth. Spencer Jones (SR/Three Rivers, Calif.) came in to pitch the final three innings of relief for the save.
Matt Nunes (JR/Fowler, Calif.) led the Panthers offensively as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run. He batted in three in the game. DB Vidal (SR/Livermore, Calif.) went yard as well with a 2-for-5 day. Lawyer Braun (SR/Federal Way, Wash.) also added a multi-hit game with his 2-for-5 effort with two RBI.
Game Two
The Panthers spotted the home team Eagles runs again in the first inning before the offense had a chance to get warmed up. Evan Sagariballa (JR/Kerman, Calif.) went seven innings picking up the complete game win allowing five runs. He struck out five and allowed zero walks.
The second inning was the game changer as the Panthers scored six runs. Luke Jackson (SR/Escondido, Calif.) got the scoring started with an RBI single to shallow left field. Tre' Bradley (JR/Lewistown, Mont.) followed that up with a double down the left field line. DB Vidal then hit a double to deep left-center that scored two runs.
DB Vidal hit a leadoff home run in the fourth inning and an errant throw with two outs scored Josh Bertey (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.). Lawyer Braun hit a solo shot in the sixth inning to finish out the scoring for the Panthers as their lead went up to 8-6.
York pounded out 13 hits, seven of which went for extra bases. The defense was stellar not committing an error and keeping Sagariballa to under 100 pitches for the game.
Vidal was the strongest offensively as he went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, and four RBIs.
The Panthers improve to 8-10 overall, 6-4 in KCAC action.
