Avila, MO - The Panthers picked up Sunday where they left off on Saturday dominating KCAC opponent Avila University 14-0 after pounding 16 hits in the rout. Dallin Cornelious (JR/Caruthers, Calif.) picked up the win as he allowed just three hits over six innings of play.
The offense got things started in the third inning when the Panthers scored three runs on three hits. Avila had back-to-back errors to lead off the inning before Lawyer Braun (SR/Federal Way, Wash.), Travis Turner (SR/Selah, Wash.), and Luke Jackson (SR/Escondido, Calif.) each reached base on singles. Ethan Lanz (SO/Littleton, Colo.) earned himself an RBI in the inning due to a bases loaded walk.
In the fourth inning, the Panthers put up four runs thanks to back-to-back home runs by Matt Nunes (JR/Fowler, Calif.), a two-run shot, and Lawyer Braun. Jake Sola (JR/Lincoln, Calif.) hit a two-out RBI double that scored Travis Turner from second.
The fifth inning saw five runs come across for the Panthers with two outs. Ethan Lanz hit a single up the middle that scored two of the five runs. York added two more runs in the sixth thanks to a double to deep left field by Turner.
Luke Jackson led the team offensively with his 3-for-5 day. Matt Nunes was stellar as well going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two walks.
As a team, the Panthers had a base-runner in every inning and only failed to get a hit in the first inning of the game.
York improves to 9-10 on the season, 7-4 in KCAC play. The players are scheduled to play at home this weekend but will wait until later this week to make a final decision.
