YORK - After winning the game on Friday against Ottawa York split the Saturday doubleheader to win the overall series.
Game One
York used a three-run eighth inning to go on top 4-2. The Braves scored one more in the eighth to make it a close game, but Spencer Jones (SR/Three Rivers, Calif.) closed out the game 4-3.
Matt Nunes (JR/Fowler, Calif.) was explosive on offense for the Panthers as he went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. He knocked in Travis Turner (SR/Selah, Wash.) and Casey Wagnon (SR/Fresno, Calif.) in the eighth for the go-ahead runs. Travis Turner was 3-for-4 as well hitting in the lead-off spot.
Dallin Cornelius picked up the win for the Panthers as he allowed just one earned run in seven and a third innings.
Game Two
York got three runs in the third inning to go up 4-2. Jake Sola (JR/Lincoln, Calif.) singled in Lawyer Braun (SR/Federal Way, Wash.) and then Luke Jackson (SR/Escondido, Calif.) hit a 2-RBI double scoring Sola and Lanz.
With the Panthers up 5-2 they looked to be in control, but the Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead 5-4. York scored two more in the fifth to regain the lead Jackson scored Sola again on a double and then Freddy Tlatenchi (FR/Omaha, Neb.) scored Lanz on an RBI single. Ottawa scored another run in the fifth to tie the game once again as both teams looked to capitalize in the sixth.
Casey Wagnon led off the sixth with a double. Braun bunted him over to third and Matt Nunes singled in Wagnon from third. However, the Braves scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead 8-7 and shut out York in the seventh.
York outhit the Braves 14-11, but three errors didn't help the Panthers cause. Garrett Ewing (JR/Liberty, Mo.) picked up the loss as he gave up the two runs in the sixth inning.
