YORK - After a nailbiter on Saturday afternoon, the Panthers used timely hitting to pick up the 3-game sweep against Southwestern 13-5 and 6-0.
Game One
York took a quick lead in the second inning as Jake Sola (JR/Lincoln, Calif.) hit a solo home run for the second day in a row. Southwestern tied it up in the top of the third, but over the course of the final five innings the Panthers scored 12 runs. The biggest inning was the sixth when five runs were scored on five hits and an error. Travis Turner (SR/Selah, Wash.) hit an infield single before Luke Jackson (SR/Escondido, Calif.) hit a single to left. Tre' Bradley (JR/Lewistown, Mont.) loaded the bases with one out. DB Vidal (SR/Livermore, Calif.) smashed a double down the left field line that scored two runs, and Matt Nunes (JR/Fowler, Calif.) followed that up with a 3-run home run that hit off of the armory in right field.
York scored another three runs in the seventh inning to put the game at 11-2. Southwestern made a little comeback in the eighth as they scored three runs on just one hit. The Panthers committed an error to help the Moundbuilders hopes stay alive, but Aaron Alvarez (SR/Madera, Calif.) was able to get out of the inning with the bases loaded.
Matt Nunes was 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Dallin Cornelius picked up the win as he went six innings, allowing just two runs, one of which was earned.
Game Two
Evan Sagariballa (JR/Kerman, Calif.) took care of business on the mound in game two as he struck out 11 batters in seven innings. York scored runs in the second and fifth innings and that was all that was needed for Sagariballa.
Ethan Lanz (SO/Littleton, Colo.) was perfect from the plate as he went 2-for-2 with a walk. Luke Jackson doubled to lead off the third, followed by Lanz singling to shallow right-center. With runners on the corners, Casey Wagnon (SR/Fresno, Calif.) singled in Jackson, moving Lanz to third. DB Vidal singled in Lanz and then Matt Nunes singled in Wagnon.
Three innings later it was Lawyer Braun (SR/Federal Way, Wash.) getting things going. He singled up the middle, stole second, and advance to third on a throwing error. Jake Sola then lined a shot down the left field line to score Braun. Josh Bertey (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.), pinch running for Sola, scored on a fielder's choice, and then Ethan Lanz scored Travis Turner.
York notched out 10 hits and stranded nine runners in the seven-inning contest.
York improves to 18-13 on the season and 16-7 in KCAC play. The Panthers will travel to Hastings College on Tuesday night for a nonconference matchup.
