Box Score YORK - York jumped out quickly in their season home opener, but the bats quieted down as Kansas Wesleyan won 12-6.
York scored three runs in the first inning but was unable to get another run across until the sixth inning. By that time the Coyotes had rattled off seven runs of their own, three of those solo homeruns. Every time the Panthers would score the rest of the way Kansas Wesleyan answered right back.
Luke Juarez took the first pitch of the game and singled to left. Eric Chambers followed suit and the Panthers had runners on first and second. Matt Nunes followed with an RBI single and was then thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Austin Eisenmenger singled to make it four in a row for York and had the Panthers up 2-0. Tony Riley had the fifth hit of the inning and scored Eisenmenger from second.
Juarez allowed back to back homeruns in the second inning and then started to get tagged in the fourth. He allowed four runs on five hits in the fourth inning, where the Coyotes took the lead and never looked back.
York looked to make a run for it in the seventh inning as they found themselves down 8-4 to begin the inning. Ethan Lanz hit a two-RBI double to bring the Panthers within two. A free base for Tony Riley loaded the bases with one out and the Panthers the chance to tie the game with a base hit. However, a line out by Tre-Bradley and then a ground out by Nick Garvey left three baserunners stranded for York.
The Panthers never got another runner on in the final two innings, while the Coyotes tacked on four more runs.
Kansas Wesleyan out hit the Panthers 16-9. York also committed five errors on the day. Luke Juarez picked up the loss as he allowed six runs in three and two-thirds innings.
The Panthers are set to host a three-game series with Southwestern College this weekend. They will play a single nine-inning game on Saturday, followed by a doubleheader on Sunday. The games will start at 1:00 p.m. on both days.
