York opened up their 2021 season in Aberdeen, South Dakota this past weekend. The Panthers came away with three losses against some tough opponents. The difference in all three contests was the first inning. York gave up a combined 18 runs in the first inning. The Panthers gave up just eight runs in the other 14 innings of play.

Game One Highlights
York scored the first two runs of the season in the first inning against Doane University. Breanna Underwood singled in her first collegiate at-bat. After a sacrifice bunt by Maricela Romero, Underwood found herself rounding third on her way home with an RBI single by Gabby Loya. Loya scored shortly after when Kiana Villarrealsingled up the middle.

That was all of the scoring for the Panthers though as they allowed nine runs in the bottom of the first to put the Tigers ahead 9-2. The Tigers scored another in the third before the game ended in five innings.

Game Two Highlights
York struggled again out of the gates allowing five runs in the first inning against Bellevue University. The Bruins scored two more runs before the Panthers got on the board in the fourth inning. Kieyerah Twombly hit an RBI fielder's choice that scored Walter from third. In the sixth inning, Sofia Perez scored thanks to an errant throw by the Bruins' second baseman. 

Game Three Highlights
Facing Doane once again the Panthers were poised to make sure things ended differently on day two. However, the Tigers posted four runs in the first and scattered five more over the final six innings to take the game 9-1. The Panthers' lone run came off of the bat of Maricela Romero when her grounder to the shortstop with the bases loaded scored Twombly from this.
