York College started off their 2021 campaign with two solid efforts against NAIA ranked opponents. The Panthers beat (16) Oklahoma City University 9-7 and followed up with a 6-4 win over (25) MidAmerica Nazarene.
The Panthers jumped out early in both contests as they never trailed in either game.
Game One Highlights
The Panthers got on the board first scoring two runs in the second inning. After the Stars answered in the bottom half the Panthers opened things up with a four-run fourth inning to lead 7-2. The Panthers would tack on two more to lead 9-3 before the Stars made it interesting late in the game. Treyton Scully picked up the win going six and two-thirds innings. He struck out six batters and allowed six runs, five of which were earned. Tyler Brackenhoff closed out the game allowing one run on two hits.
Game Two Highlights
York once again started out strong offensively as they tagged the Pioneers' pitcher for five runs in the first two innings. With a 5-1 lead going into the fifth inning Jacob Klein found himself in trouble allowing three runs before he exited. Ian Heck stepped up to the pressure and got the Panthers out of the fifth without any further damage. York added an insurance run in the sixth to go up 6-4. Blake Hernandez was the only batter to record a multi-hit game with two hits.
