Box Score 2 YORK - The Panthers beat the Swedes of Bethany College in dramatic fashion Tuesday afternoon as Natalie Luna stole home for the 5-4 win. With the score tied 4-4 going into the final inning, Luna led off the inning with a walk. After a sacrifice bunt by Breianna Cortez moved Luna over to second the Swedes intentionally walked Kate Reyes. A pitch later and Luna was standing on third with a delayed steal. With runners on the corner and only one out Reyes attempted the delayed steal as well to try to draw the throw to second that would advance Luna home. The Swedes didn't attempt the throw and walked Gabby Loya to load the bases. Katherine Arceo hit a hard fly ball to right-field, but it wasn't deep enough to score a run. With two outs now Luna put the game in her hands as she stole home after the first pitch to Katy Fazendin was thrown back to the catcher. The Swedes hadn't noticed Luna halfway to home before the catcher tossed the ball back toward the pitcher. Luna noticed the lob and dashed home for the win.
The Panthers were able to bounce back in game two after losing 9-1 in the first game. Kate Reyes did a lot of the work herself as she pitched the complete game, but added a three-run home run in the third inning to put the Panthers up 3-1.
Briana Walter hit a solo home run to center in the fourth to increase the lead to 4-2. However, a two-run home run by the Swedes tied the game in the sixth to force a tight seventh inning.
The first game was a tougher one for the Panthers as they allowed four runs in the first inning as the Swedes carried that momentum throughout the game to secure the 9-1 win. Walter hit a single that scored Breanna Underwood from second base in the first inning. That was all of the offense the Panthers were able to get in the game. York stranded eight baserunners in the game.
The Panthers are back at home on Thursday as they take on the Avila University Eagles at the York Ballpark Complex. The doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
