North Newton, KAN. - York College jumped out to a hot start on Saturday afternoon piling up eight runs as they earned the run-rule win 8-0 in game one. In game two the Panthers started a little bit slower but eventually took the lead 5-2 in the top of the seventh inning to hang on for the sweep over KCAC foe Bethel College.

Leading 3-0 going into the fifth inning the Panthers pounded out six hits and scored five runs to increase their lead to 8-0. Kate Reyes and the Panthers shut down the Threshers in the bottom of the frame and earned the victory in five innings of play.

York started off the scoring in the third inning after three Bethel errors allowed three runs. In the fifth, it was all Panthers though as Brieanna Cortez tripled down the right-field line scoring Breanna Underwood and Madi Romero. Briana Walter doubled after that to score Cortez from third. Gabby Loya and Kiana Villarreal finished things off with RBI singles. Reyes picked up the win going five complete innings allowing just six hits and striking out two batters.

The second game was a little more difficult as the Panthers allowed two unearned runs through the first four innings of play. With the score tied 2-2 going into the seventh the Panther bats came on strong. Breanna Underwood started the inning off with a single through the left side. She then advanced over to second on a sacrifice. Cortez walked putting runners at first and second with just one out. Then back-to-back singles by Briana Walter and Katherine Arceo put the Panthers ahead 4-2. A two-out error allowed Walter to score another insurance run for York.

The Threshers had no answer in the bottom of the inning as Walter allowed a two-out single and then a pop-up ended the game.
